About Avalanche Press
Avalanche Press publishes popular, award-winning board games, wargames,
and roleplaying games. Our products are available in game and hobby stores
everywhere.
Avalanche Press currently employs 11 people, with its
physical plant located in Virginia Beach,
Virginia.
Company History
Avalanche Press was founded in 1993 to produce
quality board wargames, and in 1994 debuted
its first titles, "Invasion of Italy" and
"MacArthur's Return." Over the next several
years the company produced a small trickle
of games, mostly traditional hex-and-counter
wargames.
In 1996, Avalanche Press released the first
game in the Great War at Sea series. These
games re-invigorated the wargame genre, with
their lovely graphics and smooth game play.
Twice, the series has won the prestigious
Origins Award for the best historical game
of the year.
Over the last two years, Avalanche Press
has received more finalist nominations for
the Origins Awards than any other game company
-- more even than our friends at Wizards of
the Coast or Wizkids. The industry's leading
professionals choose the finalists, and this
selection process makes us extremely proud
that our peers have honored us in this fashion.
In 2001, Wizards of the Coast opened the
license to its d20 roleplaying system to other
publishers, and Avalanche Press was one of
the early publishers to produce products for
this system. Our book "Celtic Age" won the
2002 Origins Award for Best RPG Supplement.
In 2003, Avalanche Press married the production
values of European-style boardgames with the play
value of its wargame line, producing the hit new
games "Granada" and "Soldier Emperor."
"Avalanche Press strives
to make quality, easy-to-play products based
in the past, the future, and, most importantly,
our imaginations."
