Several times a year, when we feel like it, the Golden Journal brings Gold Club members some fun extras for their Avalanche Press games. Our new-model Golden Journal features a “real” booklet, just like a small magazine, and a small set of die-cut, silky-smooth playing pieces.

Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor confirmed what many experts had already declared: the aircraft carrier had supplanted the battleship as the arbiter of sea power. The decisive battles that followed – Coral Sea, Midway, Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz – would all be decided by the airplanes taking off from carrier decks to strike enemies beyond the horizon.

Pacific Flattops presents the dozen heavy carriers that decided these battles, on the huge, oversized pieces we’ve used before for battleships in Golden Journal No. 31: Deluxe Bismarck. You don’t need these pieces to play Midway and South Pacific; they’re the same as the pieces in the games. Just way bigger and way nicer. So you really do need them.
