Having suffered enormous losses in the Battle of the Ardennes, the French Colonial Corps retreated, crossing the River Meuse on 26 August 1914. Under a heavy rain, these long-service veterans of France’s colonial wars dug in amid the Jaulnay Forest. On the next day, the German VI Corps crossed the river. The French held strong, well-prepared positions backed by artillery, so of course they left these and attacked the Germans in the open.

Fôret de Jaulnay 1914 is an Infantry Attacks Campaign Study (a short book of scenarios and history), with 10 scenarios drawn from this battle waged along the banks of the Meuse, split into two chapters, each with a battle game to link the scenarios together. Plus, of course, the story of the battle. You’ll need Iron Dice of War (and only Iron Dice of War) to play the scenarios.
