Infantry Attacks
The Iron Dice of War
On 1 August 1914, Germany decreed general mobilization, making war with France and Russia inevitable. They had cast, in Chancellor Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg's words, “The Iron Dice of War.”
On the 21st of the same month, the French Third and Fourth Armies began their long-planned counter-attack into the rough woods and steep hills of the Belgian Ardennes, against the German Fourth and Fifth Armies that had invaded Belgium two weeks earlier. The French had excellent light artillery and the tough long-service regulars of the elite Colonial Corps. They attacked with great spirit but the Germans held their ground and turned them back with enormous losses. The French Plan XVII had failed.
The Iron Dice of War is a stand-alone game in
the Infantry
Attacks series, our World War One equivalent
to the long-running Panzer
Grenadier series. Units are companies
and squadrons, and the thirty-six scenarios represent
actions from the fierce battles in the Ardennes that heralded the opening of the bloody four-year struggle on the Western Front.
The 429 pieces are the die-cut, silky-smooth type seen in all of our recent games. They're just plain fun to handle. These are the best wargame counters ever made.
There are four semi-rigid mapboards, the same type
found in Panzer Grenadier games.
They are fully compatible with the Panzer
Grenadier boards — you can play scenarios
from either series on mapboards from the other
game system.
Stuff Included:
- 36 scenarios and six battle games.
- Four rigid cardstock maps.
- 429 playing pieces.
